Luke’s 7th birthday

Avengers party!  This is what Luke is currently obsessed with, and this was definitely one of his best parties so far!  We did a treasure hunt.  max had clues set up that coincided with Avengers lingo/characters, so they had lots of fun with that!  Such a fun group of boys!

Isaac’s Clothes

I’ve mentioned before how particular Isaac is about his clothes, so this is nothing new, but I just needed to document how obsessed he is with this outfit.

For about the last 6 months, Isaac has worn his Star Wars shirt and undies (both were gifts from Nana) and his jeans just about every day except Sundays.

I do my best to keep these items clean and dry for the days we have to go out (if we stay home, he usually wears his favorite pjs just about all day), but there have been days that it was VERY ready to be washed, but I still let him wear it simply to avoid a MAJOR battle.

He has also been dressing himself since last summer (before he even turned 2), so he goes into his room every morning and picks these out.

In fact, the last week at BSF he randomly chose to wear a different shirt and the teachers seriously didn’t recognize him at first!!

One time, I tried to substitute a different pair of jeans (the ones on the left ), and he threw them down.  How does he know that the ones on the right are WAY cooler?

He started this clothes obsession at about 17 months of age, and began picking out his clothes and dressing himself before he turned 2, and now at 2 3/4, he is able to button his own dress shirts!   He knows what he wants and goes after it!

His other obsession is “zip-up pjs.”  He has 2 pairs and
wears them EVERY night.   I try my best to make   DSC09963
sure they are always clean so I don’t have to deal with a monster at bed time because it truly is DREADFUL when he has to wear other pjs.
In fact, now that it started getting warm out, we had a few nights that I refused to let him wear these things, and it was SOOOO sad.  Bedtime probably took an extra hour or more, and consisted of many spankings due to disrespect, hitting, kicking me, taking off the summer pjs, etc.
Although his behavior was totally uncalled for, I have to admit I felt really bad for him because I know how attached he is to his clothes, and he just feels so snuggly in his zip up pjs.

How could I resist buying these light-weight summer zip-up pjs?  Isn’t he just the cutest little thing in these?

Craft time

Over the last several years, we have accumulated many arts and crafts projects, and we really can’t keep all of them forever, so I figured I would take a picture of everything so we can log them into our memories.

In the 4 year old Sunday school class, each child made flowers to give to a friend.  Kya gave this to Luke :)

Luke made one of these pots as a 4 year old at VBS, and the other one as a 5 year old (with Miss Jen).

Luke certainly loves animals, and his favorite thing (around the age of 5) was to draw them (from Learn to draw book)  and cut them out.

Some of Luke's favorite things

Andrew made the butterfly, bird, and chick on the left, Luke made all the stuff on the right (Cheetah, bumble bee, butterfly blue whale, bird crocodile)  Andrew also made a finger puppet of a cat and mouse, but they have since disappeared.

These were some of the projects made at miss Jen's art class- a Christmas tree made out of their name, Rain boots, an Easter egg (which he HAD to make all black because he is obsessed with star wars, Bethlehem, a macaroni penguin, a lion (on the left).

The Yitz

After showing Isaac numerous times a few different letters: "A" is for apple, "I" is for Isaac (or igloo), "D" is for Daddy or dog, etc, I would ask him, "Isaac, where is the I?"  and he very confidently points to the X, and on and on it goes!  I'm not sure when he will learn his letters, but I have to admit its pretty cute!

One thing I'm pretty certain of though- he has every other 2 year old beat in Star War's knowledge.  He must know just about EVERY character's name!  He is pretty good at guessing movie quotes as well.

Isaac's quirks

So Isaac as a baby didn't like ANY baby food!  He would quickly turn his head away to all the classic baby foods- peas, sweet potatoes, apple sauce, pears, ANYTHING!  It was so frustrating until I began to realize there was a pattern.   I started to test him by giving him plain baby food (home made) sweet potatoes and he would turn away like always.  I then gave him some with butter, cinnamon and sugar and he loved them!

I also started adding butter and salt to veggies and he began eating them, but only if they were PERFECTLY cooked.  If they were even an ounce underdone or overdone he wouldn't eat them.

Isaac was just particular- about everything.  Certain foods I realized I had to put through the baby food grinder because he didn't like the texture of each individual item, but when blended together he loved the flavor.

one of the first things I realized he liked was lentil tacos with salsa verde.   It was so exciting that he was finally eating something!  He just had a highly developed palate for a 9 month old.  To this day, he LOVES Thai chicken and rice soup, and anything that has lots of flavor.

trying to get him to take medicine for an ear infection when he was about 9 months old was so tricky.  He hated the medicine when he first tried it, so I began mixing it with yogurt.  He would eat it mixed with the yogurt, until one day. . . He saw me put the medicine in the yogurt and then refused to eat it!  He actually remembered the medicine from a few days ago, and when he saw me add it to yogurt, he wanted nothing to do with it!

He has always been particular about his clothes (the flannel ), shoes and even has to have his blanket and pillow just right every night when he goes to bed.

One day we will miss these little things.

Made up characters

Pichu Speak is Andrew's version of David Banner.
Luke always gets to be the real guy, so in order for Andrew to have a chance against Luke, he always had to make people up.  He made up "Pichu Speak" and would turn into the "Very, Very strong creature" while Luke got to be David Banner and turn into the Hulk.
Isaac was given a made up guy called Peter Nom (but he always called him "Peter mom") Peter Nom would turn into the Black knight.

our kid's songs

We were just reminiscing about the different songs we have made up for each of our kids, so here they are:

1. LUKA, LUKA, LUKA, LUKA, LUKE. LUKA, LUKA, LUKA, LUKA, LUKE. (made up by Daddy)

2. You're my little Lukey, you're my sweet pea
You're my little Lukey, you're everything to me-e-e, and
You're my little Lukey, and I love you so
No matter where you ever are, you're my little boy I know.

3. Little bubba Ahwoo, a bubba Ahwoo, he's my little baby boy (a baby boy)
a bubba ahwoo, a bubba ahwoo, he's my little baby boy

4. It's time to take a bath, its time to take a bath
everybody takes a bath, its time to take a bath

5. Miriam, oh Miriam, you're my sweet little baby girl
I love you oh yes I do, Miriam oh Miriam

6. You're my sweet baby girl, sweet little Miri, Miri
Sweet baby girl, sweet little Miri, Miriam

7. Mary, mary quite contrary how does your garden grow
Mary Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow.

So, after going through all the songs, we truly couldn't remember Isaac's, although I know for a FACT I used to sing one to him. I actually think I sang Miriam's song (you're my sweet baby boy, sweet little baby, baby, sweet baby boy, sweet little baby baby boy) to him first, but I can't say for sure that was it.

However, we have definitely had the most nicknames for Isaac. Most of these were his nicknames from about 16 months till about 2 years old. Now he is just a DWEET, or a DWEET DWEET, or a cranky DWEET

Yitzac (along with other variations Yitz, the Yitz, Yit, and lately I've been saying "yitzy bitsy")

Baby wisp (when he was about 18 months because of his wispy hair)

Wee wee womps

Baby dop

Tooter dumps (or just "tooter")

Vavy (Andrew's name for him for a while instead of "baby")
