He’s finally talking!!

I have to admit, I was beginning to get a little concerned that Isaac wasn’t talking AT ALL by his 15 month check up.

He would just point at things and grunt.

Max and his Dad just thought it was cute and constantly said, “he’s gonna be like his Daddy”, but for a little while I thought there could be something wrong with him.  Fortunately, Carol reassured me that there would be many more signs if he were autistic or something, and that he was simply a slow talker.  She recommended that I call the infants and toddler program and get him started with speech therapy early.

A speech therapist came to the house to evaluate him, and recommended that we make an apointment for January, but by the time he was 16 months, he finally said something!  I actually wrote it down just to reassure myself.  Within the next couple weeks, he began to say other words too so I cancelled the appointment.

12/10/10 Yes, duck, Nana, hammer, “eesh”= trees, ice, hot

Yay!  I was so excited. . . but then he stopped learning new words and he was getting to be close to 18 months now, the age at which both Luke and Andrew seemed to learn at least 15 new words a day!  I started to get a little nervous again, but then he would surprise me and say a new word every couple of days.

At the 18 month check up, Carol said  he should be able to say at minimum 15 words.  I went home and wrote down all the words he says now, just to see and here they are:

yes- yesh

fish – fitsh

ice

hot – ha

shoes – ish

Chup-pop

Mama

Dada

Banana – nana

Apple

Stairs

Bye Bye

nose – nn

eye – ah

ball –buh

please – pees

bath – bat

sleeping babies

There is something so sweet and precious about watching your child sleep. With each boy, I have just had to take pictures of them sleeping because they look so peaceful, no matter how rough of a day it was. The picture on the left was after several spankings when we got home from church. Luke had never fallen asleep on us since he was a newborn. . . until now.

One of my favorite things, though is when Andrew wakes up from his nap. It's a little hard to describe, but Max and I both agree that there is something really cute about when he first wakes up. His eyes are so wide and his face is sort of solemn. All he wants is to be held for a little while.
